Giving Back to the Community: Oak Park Internship

As students, we have all been affected by the history of our communities, our race, the language directed towards us, and our perceptions of justice or the lack thereof. Through our Transformative Justice Studies internship, we have a chance to bring those experiences to benefit the students at Oak Ridge Elementary in Sacramento.

Learning How Our Neighborhoods Came To Be

We have created a caste system in this country, with African Americans kept exploited and geographically separate by racially explicit government policies. Although most of these policies are now off the books, they have never been remedied and their effects endure. -Richard Rothstein, p. XVII
